Thanks, Holy Hip Hop

As a mother of two at-risk young men, I am compelled to give kudos to some of the Holy Hip Hop artists I’ve been listening to lately.  While on an aggressive hunt for positive music, I found a really good podcast on iTunes by Rapzilla.com and another from Reach Records, who is the label of my very first favorite HHH artist, Lecrae.

More is being revealed to me, friends.  I’m finally making the connection between the messages I’ve been listening to in music and their affect on me emotionally, spiritually and [I suspect] physically.  Garbage in, garbage out is a saying I heard many years ago that I’ve always held on to.  In contrast, “good things in = good things out”.  My epiphany:  I really need to monitor my music choices.

We are not promised another living moment. It is more important to me than ever before to make my time valuable.  Concentrated vs. diluted, if you will.  I’m seeing the fruit of this theory after 10 months of sobriety.  My days are now filled with healthy activities and quality experiences, and I am finally reconnected with God.

Notice how I said “God” and not “Jesus”, “Buddha”, “Jehovah”, “Higher Power” or whatever other representation one might use for a divine being or existence?  This is intentional…only because I personally don’t believe there needs to be so much controversy and/or drama around a basic set of spiritual principals. My pursuit of happiness, peace and serenity is a simple process of gathering information from various truths and implementing them into my life to effect positive change.  I have ONE diving being in charge of my life, and I call him God.  I respect everyone’s path as their own.

I have digressed from my original intention for this post.  LOL  Ultimately, I meant to share my self-reflection that stemmed from watching a couple of Holy Hip Hop artist interviews.  They are delivering powerful messages that continue to lift my spirit and help keep me focused on the truly important aspects of life.
